Reviews, Press, Q+A

Working with Manali was an absolute pleasure. She’s professional, kind, and genuinely seems to enjoy the process of working with couples to create images they’ll always want to remember. She has a great knack for capturing the right combination of pictures – both the spontaneous and traditional -and she’s able to personalize her approach to each particular couple she works with.

Manali was such a joy to work with! She shot our engagement shoot as well as our wedding. She is a very gifted and talented photographer and it shows in her work. Neither myself or my husband are at ease in front of a camera but she made us very comfortable. On the day of our wedding, she was constantly shooting but we hardly noticed she was there. The pictures really captured the day perfectly and told the story of our wedding. Absolutely fabulous work!!

We could not have done a better job choosing a photographer for our engagement photos and wedding photography than we did when we chose Manali. She is incredibly talented, professional, and also personable. She made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera. The day of our wedding, Manali and her associate did a flawless job. It seemed like they were invisible, but got every shot I wanted and a ton I didn’t think to ask for. Our photos were everything we wanted and so much more. She did a superb job of capturing the magic of our special day.

We were so grateful to have Manali photograph our wedding last September in Point Reyes. She was incredibly flexible before, during and after the wedding. On the day of the wedding, her calm, responsive style was wonderful and she snapped away with genuine enthusiasm. She was incredibly professional and assertively kept us on track to be sure we would get the full family photos and the perfect shots during sunset. We especially loved her candids.

Manali is a phenomenal photographer! On our wedding day she captured all of the special moments and unique shots. She got beautiful shots of all of our friends and family, and fantastic shots of me and my husband. One thing that I especially appreciated was the way that she was assertive and led everyone to take the photos we wanted. I know I was completely overwhelmed and really needed her to take charge, and she totally did. I highly recommend Manali. She is professional and extremely talented.

Manali and her team did a great job at our wedding and reception. The photos were beautiful, delivered when promised and covered everything we could have asked for. She worked with us and took control when necessary without being overbearing. There were many compliments about her work from others at the reception. We had a perfect day and the pictures showed that.

Q + A

q. What kind of photography do you do?

a. I specialize in weddings, and I love photographing natural and candid moments. A wedding brings up so much emotion and excitement and I love capturing those unscripted moments. I also enjoy photographing events and portraits.

q. How long have you been photographing?

a. 15+ years. I can’t believe it’s been that long. My life has revolved around photography ever since I started developing my own black and white prints in the high school darkroom. After high school I traveled throughout Europe with my best friend and my camera, where I originally developed my photo-journalistic style. After that amazing experience I had a portfolio which got me into my dream college, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Since I am originally from California so I was eager to resettle on the West Coast as soon as I could, which was in 2010.

q. How long have you been photographing professionally?

a. 7 years. Ever since I moved to San Francisco in 2010 I have been photographing professionally. I have garnered a lot of experience during that time. I photographed over 100 events, weddings and portraits in 2014 alone and have seen just about every lighting situation. I knew I wanted to photograph weddings after my own wedding in 2008, which happened around the same time that I graduated college. The experience of getting my photos back was so special to me that I knew that was what I wanted to do for others.

q. What inspires you to take pictures?

a. I was originally moved by the work I saw that captured the human condition in a raw and unfiltered way. Great photographers like Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, Diane Arbus, and Josef Koudelka, were very influential as I developed my eye. Though I don’t photograph the same subject matter as they did, I look for the same truth and beauty I find present in their work.

Technical Questions

q. Once we have decided to work with you for our wedding, what should we expect?

a. I will send over a contract to be signed electronically and there will be a deposit due. If we are going to do an engagement session together we’ll start planning for that. I am always available for any questions that may occur to you in the time before the wedding. I encourage couples to reach out to me as they are putting together their timeline to make sure we have enough time to capture the photos they want. I also check in about a month before the wedding to start preparing for the photography portion of the day and arrange a time for a phone call check in. We will talk about the things you are most looking forward to and I’ll have those in my mind as I am photographing during the wedding.

q. What is included with basic coverage?

a. Basic coverage always includes the selected and edited jpegs. I never charge more for your photos after they have been photographed, though some photographers do. They are color corrected, adjusted for exposure and ready to print.

q. What kind of gear do you use?

a. I’m a Canon girl. My first camera was my dad’s Canon from the 70’s and it continued from there. I have two full frame Canon cameras, 10 lenses and 2 flashes. Needless to say I love my gear, but I am also intent on making sure that even in case of equipment failure I am always prepared to photograph those moments that will only happen once.

q. Are you insured?

a. Yup. I can provide a COI to your venue if required.

q. Do you offer albums?

a. Definitely! Albums are precious. The ones I offer take a lot of time to create and are beautifully hand constructed with exceptional materials in California.

q. How long does it take for me to receive my photos?

a. It depends on the event. It usually takes 4-8 weeks to turn around edited wedding photos.
