Steve & Connie eloped at Big Hendy Woods State Park and it was absolutely perfect! The couple had their hearts set on a redwood grove wedding from the start. With Muir Woods National Monument booked out all year, and Big Basin Redwoods State Park no longer accepting events, the couple came across Big Hendy Grove – a somewhat hidden treasure filled with old growth redwoods in Mendocino County. Steve & Connie were able to get married here really easily because Mendocino State Parks don’t require a permit for weddings with 12 people or less.
Connie says, “Big Hendy Grove was an easy choice for its dramatic lighting, rich red soil, bushy ferns, dainty bridges, and zig-zagging paths!”
We had a ton of fun exploring the grove and taking portraits all the while. I am obsessed with these trees, they are just spectacular. Did you know only 5% of old growth redwoods still exist and these particular trees could be hundreds if not thousands of years old? Most of the redwood forests that are well known in California are second growth forests that sprung up after the original trees were logged in the 1800’s or early 1900’s, which makes these old growth redwoods very special.
Needless to say the chose an incredible special place to tie the knot. I’m so glad they were able to have the wedding they’d hoped for at a place they previously had not known. Scroll down to enjoy a glimpse of their magical day.
