San Francisco City Hall Wedding: K + K

K+K threw the perfect San Francisco City Hall wedding, and they had all the wonderful things! There were cute kids, an adorable dog dressed in a pink doggie tutu, a string quartet to fill the grand hall with the right ambiance, a grand exit with streamers, as well as stops at the beach and the Golden Gate Bridge to finish out their gorgeous wedding photos. But let me back up and start with the key thing that made this wedding extra special, they rented out the entire city hall for a Saturday morning private rental. Yes folks, they had the entire stunning building to themselves, and it was a dream.

We started with a first look on the 4th Floor North Gallery Balcony where K+K took a moment to exchange private vows in the form of handwritten letters before the ceremony began and it got a little emotional. Then it was time to begin the ceremony on the grand staircase, which was followed by a first dance which also occurred on the staircase. They looked so amazing twirling on the stairs! It was very classy and very special.

K+K left in style with a grand exit where their families threw streamers above their heads. The kids had a blast! After we finished up at city hall we left for Rodeo Beach in the Marin headlands for more photos and then headed over to Battery Spencer also in the Marin headlands for some photos by that stunning overlook of the Golden Gate Bridge. They really cozied up together against the wind at the bridge and I just thought they were so dang cute so I took a bunch of photos, of course!

As Natalie opened the door to do a first look with her groom, her two besties walked up and screamed with excitement when they saw their gorgeous friend. The groom listened to all of the commotion going on behind him while he patiently waited for his turn to see his beautiful bride next for their first look.

My guide for couples planning a wedding at San Francisco City Hall has been fully updated for 2026!

A heads up if you're planning a civil ceremony: at some point last year City Hall changed when they release these appointments, which was confusing for couples. But I lay it all out on the blog so you can be prepared.

Here’s what you’ll find in this guide:

- The different types of ceremonies SF city hall offers and what to expect
- Advice on when to schedule your ceremony (day of the week and time of day)
- Questions for you to consider to help you plan a whole wedding day that suits you well
- Tips on transportation to and from city hall
- Recommendations for where to stay for out-of-town couples

Enjoy!
Three things to know about getting married at San Francisco City Hall

• You can pick up a marriage license from any county in California. Just make sure it is within 90 days of your date
• The best light and my favorite portrait location is on the 4th-floor North balcony
• San Francisco City Hall’s best kept secret: Did you know you can get married at SF City Hall without making a wedding appointment? You just need to hire your private officiant, and I can help you plan a wedding like this.
