Straus Home Ranch Wedding: Christy + Dory

Get ready to smile because Christy and Dory constantly share infectious laughter during their Straus Home Ranch wedding day in Marshall, CA. I know I found myself grinning while editing these photos and while taking them. They got married on a day that was all things weather wise; it was foggy and misty for our first look and then gloriously warm and sunny during cocktail hour on the lawn in front of the old farm house. The first look took place on the little beach across the road from Straus before the wedding ceremony took place up in the eucalyptus grove on the hill. And the night ended with dinner and an epic dance party in the classic red barn as the band the Lucky Devils played their hearts out.

I thought the getting ready moments were very precious with Christy, the ladies, and Dory’s three adorable nieces. As it turns out their officiant was no stranger to weddings or the couple, he is a pastor and the father of the groom and he did a wonderful job at making the ceremony funny, touching and very personal. And it’s at the start of the ceremony that you’ll find what might be my favorite photo from their wedding. It’s the moment that Dory meets Christy at the end of the aisle and they look into each other’s eyes. You can feel the strength of their connection in that look, and right behind them you’ll notice Christy’s dad is smiling at Dory. It’s a beautiful moment.

Enjoy the photos!

As Natalie opened the door to do a first look with her groom, her two besties walked up and screamed with excitement when they saw their gorgeous friend. The groom listened to all of the commotion going on behind him while he patiently waited for his turn to see his beautiful bride next for their first look.

My guide for couples planning a wedding at San Francisco City Hall has been fully updated for 2026!

A heads up if you're planning a civil ceremony: at some point last year City Hall changed when they release these appointments, which was confusing for couples. But I lay it all out on the blog so you can be prepared.

Here’s what you’ll find in this guide:

- The different types of ceremonies SF city hall offers and what to expect
- Advice on when to schedule your ceremony (day of the week and time of day)
- Questions for you to consider to help you plan a whole wedding day that suits you well
- Tips on transportation to and from city hall
- Recommendations for where to stay for out-of-town couples

Enjoy!
Three things to know about getting married at San Francisco City Hall

• You can pick up a marriage license from any county in California. Just make sure it is within 90 days of your date
• The best light and my favorite portrait location is on the 4th-floor North balcony
• San Francisco City Hall’s best kept secret: Did you know you can get married at SF City Hall without making a wedding appointment? You just need to hire your private officiant, and I can help you plan a wedding like this.
