The Westin San Jose (Sainte-Claire Hotel): Emily + Jzesern

Westin San Jose Wedding Ceremony (Saint-Claire Hotel)

I was honored to be a part of Emily & Jzesern’s beautiful wedding celebration at the Westin San Jose in the historic Sainte Claire Hotel building. The whole wedding took place indoors but you would hardly know it based on the beautiful quality of natural light that illuminated their ceremony in the courtyard. They celebrated both Emily’s Jewish background and Jzesern’s Chinese background during the ceremony by tying in important traditional wedding elements from each culture. The ceremony started with a Chinese tea ceremony, to honor both sets of parents, and to honor Emily’s Jewish heritage they stood under a chuppah, received seven blessings from guests, and Jzesern stomped on a glass at the end!

You will easily notice their nieces in the photos, the adorable little flower girls in the sweet little blue floral dresses. Not only was Emily busy doing the normal (huge) amount of work it takes to plan a wedding but she also designed and hand-sewed each one of those little frocks!

My favorite highlight of their wedding was hands down their first dance to Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”! Now, whenever I hear that song I remember their epic dance. They totally killed it, while laughing the whole time– adorable!! The night ended with a true celebration as everyone, young and old, made their way to the dance floor. Enjoy the photos and make sure to check out a list of their talented vendors below.

As Natalie opened the door to do a first look with her groom, her two besties walked up and screamed with excitement when they saw their gorgeous friend. The groom listened to all of the commotion going on behind him while he patiently waited for his turn to see his beautiful bride next for their first look.

My guide for couples planning a wedding at San Francisco City Hall has been fully updated for 2026!

A heads up if you're planning a civil ceremony: at some point last year City Hall changed when they release these appointments, which was confusing for couples. But I lay it all out on the blog so you can be prepared.

Here’s what you’ll find in this guide:

- The different types of ceremonies SF city hall offers and what to expect
- Advice on when to schedule your ceremony (day of the week and time of day)
- Questions for you to consider to help you plan a whole wedding day that suits you well
- Tips on transportation to and from city hall
- Recommendations for where to stay for out-of-town couples

Enjoy!
Three things to know about getting married at San Francisco City Hall

• You can pick up a marriage license from any county in California. Just make sure it is within 90 days of your date
• The best light and my favorite portrait location is on the 4th-floor North balcony
• San Francisco City Hall’s best kept secret: Did you know you can get married at SF City Hall without making a wedding appointment? You just need to hire your private officiant, and I can help you plan a wedding like this.
