San Francisco City Club Wedding: Cecily & Tom

bride and groom exchange vows at San Francisco City Club Wedding Ceremony

If you love a sophisticated celebration studded with bright color, then I have a delight in store for you. It was a chilly winter day in February when Cecily & Tom got married in the heart of San Francisco, at the San Francisco City Club. Cecily is an architect so naturally they chose the most iconic example of art deco architecture in San Francisco for their wedding. (I mean it has a Diego Rivera mural, this place is amazing!)

To start the day off Cecily got ready nearby at the Omni hotel which is also where we did their first look photos. Then we took a city stroll on over to the city club where Cecily and Tom participated in a Chinese tea ceremony for their family members before their wedding ceremony. It was so special when Tom & Cecily huddled with Cecily’s grandma to receive her love and well wishes for their marriage.

Cecily looked absolutely stunning when she walked down the aisle with her father and the gold leaf ceiling in the ballroom where they held the ceremony is just amazing. It has beautiful angles and textures and reflects the light that comes in through the windows. I really wanted to show it off so I did something a little different while I was photographing their ceremony. It’s a subtle change, but I favored wide angle lenses like my 35mm and 24mm more than I normally would so I could show off the magnificence of the space in the background better and I think that choice worked out quite nicely. (Don’t mind me, just patting myself on the shoulder!)

The day ended with a celebration of Cecily’s Chinese culture and family. Cecily wore her mother’s gorgeous vintage hand embroidered Chinese wedding dress for the first dance with Tom and they invited a Chinese Dragon dance troupe out to kick off the evening celebrations. It was an incredible night.

A shout out to Natalie for being my amazing second photographer and to Cecily & Tom’s excellent vendors.

So freaking excited for these two! They kept it sweet and simple with a private elopement in San Francisco's golden gate park and they also had an enormous amount of luck when they planned to get married on Wednesday when we had a break in the rain here in the SF Bay Area. It was such a joy to capture this moment ❤️
Just going to put this here... my first attempt at putting myself in front of the camera! Everyone else is doing it so I'm giving it a shot now too.

This is from Christy & Dory's gorgeous wedding at Straus Home Ranch, in Marshall, CA. It is one of my favorite venues and this was a very special wedding. Even though this is a more serious moment there is tons of laughter that happens between these two. Christy has the most contagious laugh. I'm sure you'll be smiling when you take a peek. Check out the link in bio.

Enjoy fleet week San Francisco. Hope you enjoy it as much as this mother of the bride!

The most memorable moments are the unexpected ones. We were getting lined up for family photos when we could hear the blue angels starting up (very loudly) and flying overhead. Emily & Will got so lucky they didn't fly over while they were exchanging their vows and only started up just minutes after they said "I do."

Also when taking this photo I was disappointed for a split second that I didn't have a long close up lens on me so I could get a better photo of the planes, but then I realized my wide angle lens was perfect for allowing me to get everyone's reaction to the planes just before they zoomed out of frame.
